It causes me much grief and despair when I read about some Employers suggesting that the Furlough Experience has made them realise that can operate just as efficiently, with a reduced workforce, as they could before the Furlough Programme. They cite the simple numbers game to support these statements without really considering the longer term consequences which could be many; short term gains at the expense of long term sustainability, health issues as a reduced team struggle to maintain turnover, loss of customer confidences as support begins to appear threadbare – it goes on and on.
Some of Hanna Hillen’s most successful and profitable Corporate Clients have consistently maintained a strong focus in ‘Job Retention’ which, in turn, sees their respective Businesses operate smoothly – a bit like a Rolls Royce Engine – the logistics are looked after by competent people……………
There needs to be some serious reflection on the impact of downsizing! Consider the serious time, knowledge and resources invested into those Employees – not just by the Employers but also by the Employees themselves. To waste that combined investment would surely prove to be a costly mistake… yet if we are to believe many reports washing about, there is currently a rush to downsize workforces.
Deliberate on the alternative, if there have been increased efficiencies discovered, then simply apply those efficiencies into creating increased business growth as and when Society finally emerges out of this pandemic – keep successful people together.
